Yeah, that’s not what I meant…
Under normal circumstances, my girls’ bedroom is a disgrace. When we’re rushing around during the normal year (school, dance, etc.), they don’t really have a lot of time at home to invest into organizing and straightening everything up. When they get home from school, they’re whipping off their school clothes and digging frantically to find their company leo, tights, and skirt (if only they put those things where they belong)! So everything ends up in a room-swallowing pile in the middle of their floor, and they’re too exhausted when they come home from dance class to find the motivation to clean it up before bedtime.
Plus, their bedroom is upstairs while mine is downstairs, so I don’t often go up there (it’s like Vegas – whatever happens in the kids’ rooms should stay in the kids’ rooms, as far as I’m concerned). So knowing that Mom probably won’t be seeing the mess right away results in the “Eh, we’ll get to it eventually, just not today” mentality.
Clean Up Your Act
Last year, we were at a dance competition when my girls were warming up their solos. Jayden had been holding back in her prior performances a bit, having explained to me that she felt a bit silly when she used her facials in front of people. So as she departed to go backstage, I yelled, “Leave it all on the floor!” Without missing a beat, she yelled back, “Like the floor in my room?!” That response caught me off guard, and she laughed at the shock on my face before happily bouncing off.
We tell our dancers to leave it all on the floor so they have no regrets about holding back during a performance. I just wish my girls wouldn’t leave it all on the floor at home!
